The AGM will be held at the next social meeting on 6 March 2012. Please endeavour to be there to vote for your 2012 committee. It's one of the things you can do to ensure that ESSA remains focussed, dynamic, energetic and relevant.
You can only vote if you are a currently paid-up member. This means that Piers must have your money or proof of your EFT; not just a promise of it. It doesn't count if you've been a member for the last 20 years - if you haven't paid for 2012, you can't vote, sorry!
If you want to stand for the committee, or want to nominate someone to the committee, please be aware that even though it's a voluntary position, it is a *service* position. All the club members and the other committee members will expect you to pull your weight, do what you say you'll do and put in some hard work, along with blood, sweat and tears! The blood and tear will hopefully only be optional..!
Each committee member is expected to organise at least three trips per year. There are eleven committee meetings and eleven social meetings per year. Every committee member is also expected to attend as many of these meetings as possible.
If you or your nominee feel that this cannot be achieved due to work pressures, distance, motivation or any other reasons, please do not stand or nominate that person. ESSA needs and deserves a hard-working, committed committee!
Think long and hard about it, and come along to the AGM on Tuesday evening and use your vote wisely!
Karen Hauptfleisch will also be talking about her travels and travails in West Africa, as she fulfills her dream of climbing the highest mountain in every single African country. She has previously regaled us of her tales in Southern Africa, of peaks disputed and maps discredited.
See you there!
