Stargazing Evening – 23 July 2011
A great evening spent out in the cold winter air looking at the fabulous stars. 50 people from ESSA, ASSA came through to Bushtrails in Magalisberg. The afternoon was spent setting up all the telescopes, there was a solar telescope and the sun’s flares could be seen.
As the night approached the telescopes were in full swing, looking at all sorts in the sky, we saw Saturn with its rings, a galaxy the shape of a swan, the dumbbells and many more interesting constellations and star groups.
The astronomers were more than eager to share their knowledge of the sky.
As the cold night air sunk in, so the braais were lit and dinner prepared.
The rest of the evening was spent milling from one telescope to the next to gather interesting facts of the world beyond ours.
