Join us for a fascinating talk by Ilette Strydom and company on the Baviaans Cycle Tour done earlier this year.
For the 20 riders and 6 supporters - 6 vehicles - the Baviaans Tour was an amazing experience. Not everyone was fit and some had not even been on a bike for a couple of weeks! Nonetheless the way it was planned, the route and distances we cycled every day, the weather and above all the people made it an unforgettable experience for each and every one. The talk shall give information for us everyday adventurers and make it easy for anyone to organise a couple of days cycling trip. Ilette will be talking about the logistics, overnight stops, costs, support and of course the riders and the tandem! Jaco will talk about different routes including Baviaans, bicycles and maintenance, backpacks and what to take with. Gavin and Bridget has put together a small slideshow focussing on kids, scenery, interesting and amusing things.
Since Jaco started cycling in 2004, Ilette have joined him and cycled a bit. She has volunteered for waterpoints at the 2 Cape Epics he cycled in 2007 and 2008. Jaco rode the Freedom Challenge in 2008 and completed it in 21 days. Jaco has developed new routes since 2007 and we have cycled with groups since then. As part of scouting new routes we have cycled with the tandem from Rhodes to Lady Brand and travelled 10ths of thousands of kilometers around Lesotho, from Beit Bridge to Pietermaritsburg, through Swaziland and from Kakamas to Beit Bridge.
