Hi there.

I have been climbing for about a year now and the interest in climbing within the crowd I hang out with is growing at an amazing rate.
I have been asked to organise a beginners day by quite a few people ……and they better attend this one LOL.
I have chatted about this idea to a few people and some of them suggested that I do it on real rock at a easy “crag” (climbing location) but it is sometimes very noisy at the “real” climbing places (wind and water noise plus other climbers and belayers shouting commands), so I have decided that this will happen at a gym on fake rock where it is easy to see what you are doing and to provide (shout) guidance/advice from the bottom.

The only climbing gym that can handle crowds for weeks and weeks to come, is the Climbing Barn outside Pretoria. (other gyms have school bookings and competitions and stuff).
It is a little far but to make up for this they gave us an amazing group discount of 33%

I am going to need a few other experienced climbers to help me on this day please. Who will be willing to volunteer?

Details for the day:
It will happen at the Climbing Barn (http://www.climbingbarn.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=18)(find directions below)
It will happen on 21 May 2011
The discounted costs for everyone coming as part of my group will be R40pp.
We will meet at the Barn at opening time at 10pm
Closing time is 8pm

They sell snacks but bring food and drink for the day. There is a braai we can use so you can also bring some buns and braaiwors for lunch if you want to.
We may also camp over at R40pp. They have a big lawn and basic toilet facilities. This could be lekker social if you want to camp over and have a lekker braai and talk about what you learned to day and brag/dream about the big cliffs you are going to climb next weekend LOL. They also have a bonfire pit. (we need to bring wood)

Climbing gear will be rented at the following rates:
Harness R20
Shoes R15
Rope R25 (don’t worry, this is only required if you want to “lead” and as a beginner you don’t have to worry about renting this. There are permanent ropes on most of their routes)
Chalk bag R5

Wear comfortable clothing for the climbing. Something that will allow you to move unrestricted so probably something very loose or something quite tight.

They have 50-60 climbing routes available, including lead-climb routes.

PLEASE let me know ASAP if you are interested so I can confirm this group booking with the Barn.
This is an open invite and I can be contacted on andrew.louw@thyssenkrupp.com or on 082 929 3169
