Join us for a wekeend of four short hikes to choose from, around the Vredefort Dome. Trails in the mountains, bush veld, indigenous trees are tagged with national names and numbers, stunning views of meteorite sites, Matabele ruines, mountain streams in rain season, interesting rock formations and geological sites.

I have provisionally booked for 10 people but the hut can take up to 26, if we don't fill all the places we might have to share with others.


Consists of 4 huts and accommodates 26 hikers. All units with bunk beds and mattresses. The separate, communal kitchen is equipped with a gas fridge, gas stove, pots, pans and kettle.  There is NO electricity, but lanterns and candles are provided.

There is a thatched lapa with braai facilities, as well as an open braai area, suitable for camp fires and braai. The ablutions include : two flush toilets, one shower, one bath – hot water. A huge cement farm  dam in the camp to cool off after the day’s hike.

Self guided Day Circular trails: 

  • Route 1: (Summit trail) 11 km

This trail stretches through bush veld koppies and the Bobbejaans mountains with its ravines, mountain streams in summer, indigenous forest and a large bird variety. All species indigenous trees are marked and labeled with Dendrological Numbers. Hikers have a stunning views from the mountains.  From here hikers have a view of the meteorite dome site. 

  • Route 2 : 9 km.

This interesting trail takes the hiker through thorn bush to Tswana and Matabele ruins. The well known port Totius house can be seen on this trail.  

  • Route 3: 2 km.

 This is a short a bird watching trail and can be done early in the morning or late afternoon, just to stretch legs.  

  • Route 4: 6 km.

The trail stretches through small ravines with mountain streams in summer, indigenous bush. A variety of small game can be seen on this trail.  


Other Activities that can be done on the weekend:

Mountain Biking – up to 30km dirt road – bring own bikes.

Fishing at big dam –  barber, karp, kurper.

Swimming in farm dams – bring tubes.

Excellent bird watching.

Enjoy perfect Star gazing at night!

Visit Totius’s Farm house and Anglo Boer War sites in area.
