Northern Farm

Once again an invitation to a leisurely MTB ride around the Northern Farm. A medium paced activity of between 1-2 hours, starting time 08h00 for 08h30 on Saturday 11 July. This is highly recommended as a respite to city scenery and is as the name suggests akin to riding around a farm in the countryside. The gear required, bike, helmet, sun tan lotion and a water botle or two. The ride is suitable for all age groups.

There's a map, and good written directions on the website for the farm (also shown at the end of this email too), you have to click on the brown "info" tab at the top right of the home page which is: http://www.northernfarm.co.za/. 

You need to visit the access cards sales office, to purchase a day pass to get in. If you don't have time to do this let me know and I'll make a plan.

NEW directions to SA Trails & the “Northern Farm Access Cards” Sales Office: (From the web site)

From Cedar Road (R562) in the Fourways area:

Take Cedar Road (R562) past Broadacres Shopping Center and Chartwell to the T-junction at the end of Cedar Road. Turn right onto the R114 to Diepsloot, cross the Jukskei River, and turn left onto a tar road at the “Riverfield Lodge Hospital” sign (100m after Heron Bridge College).
This road leads to Riverfield Lodge Hospital. At the end of the tar follow the dirt road left and then right under the N14 highway.
Continue along this road for 400m until you see the next “Northern farm Access Cards” sign, and turn left onto the property. Continue down and park where indicated. Tickets are sold from 6:30am – 6:00pm on weekends and Public holidays

From Sandton/ Hartbeespoort Dam (R511) offramp on the N14 freeway:

Take the R511 offramp from the freeway and turn left onto the R511 (William Nicol extension) at the bottom of the offramp. Pass under the freeway and immediately turn left onto the R114 Muldersdrift road. Travel on this road beyond the Northern Farm entrance (+- 5.4km), continue on for another +- 2.7km and turn right onto a tar road at the “Riverfield Lodge Hospital” sign (before Heron Bridge College and before the Jukskei River). This road leads to Riverfield Lodge Hospital. At the end of the tar follow the dirt road left and then right under the N14 highway.
Continue along this road for 400m until you see the next “Northern farm Access Cards” sign, and turn left onto the property. Continue down and park where indicated.

Directions to Northern Farm from SA Trails: From The Access Cards Sales Office

Drive back the same way until you reach the tar road you turned in on (the R114).
Turn left and drive for +- 2.7km.
Turn left at the two big white walls with a small sign that says “Northern Farm”
Show your ticket at the gate.
