Tour d'Afrique

Closer to home

6 Apr

There wasn't too much to explore in Lilongwe. We spent most of the time re-stocking our food reserves and lazing around at the hotel pool. In the evening we had surprise visit and dinner invitation by the South African High Commissioner and her husband and subsequently spent a very interesting evening with them.

Another hilly, exhausting yet beautiful day in Tanzania. When I said earlier that I would go back to eating dirt I wasn't aware how true that was to become. We were on dry sandy roads all day and whenever a car came past or towards us there was this cloud of dust to get through. I still feel the dust and grit between my teeth.

 Hi all,

we are in Kenya

Singing in the rain! It was drizzling this morning when we left camp but it dried up quickly. The landscape has changed from tropical farmland to bushveld and it is very obvious that we are nearing the Kenyan border. The people look different too, their clothing is more colourful and they are much friendlier.

We are in Kenya! We put the last couple of Ethiopian hills behind us and arrived at the border town, Moyale, by lunchtime. The only pub in town is called “prison canteen” but we couldn't find out why!
